I think of Matt Ulery as one of Chicago's most inventive composers and improvisors in the City. His music never fails to invoke deep imagery and emotion. This new ensemble of his glances to early 20th century rag, rent party music, and southern brass sentiment, all with the undeniable Ulery touch.
