Taraf de Chicago in Washington, DC (night 1)

Chicago’s only Taraf will bring re-imaginings of traditional Romanian/Moldovan folk music to Romanian Music at the Wharf at the invitation of the Romanian Consulate.

Taraf de Chicago is the latest project of Ana Everling. The ensemble consists of musicians of different origins , who came together to play Romanian music, predominantly from Ana's homeland - Moldova, Bessarabia area.

Formed in Chicago, 2019, the group sprang out of Ana's love for Romanian folklore - carols, drinking songs, wedding laments, doinas, dance music, and the genre of music for children, infused with tales, riddles, proverbs and old sayings. Coming from the world of village communities, these musical pieces preserve some of the oldest Romanian poetic achievements.

The instrumentation of this group brings a strong american influence, replacing the traditional cimbalom with the banjo, the accordion with the piano and electric guitar, adding instruments like clarinet, saxophone and various percussion instruments.
